VISION

To make the Department a modern School of Commerce…College of Commerce… and Commerce Hub…

MISSION

To provide high quality Commerce Education to enable the students to become well qualified professionals such as Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants, Company Secretaries, Advocates, Managers,Academiciansand Entrepreneurs.

OBJECTIVES

Many of our students have proved their mettle and have become leading Chartered Accountants, Cost Accountants and challenging Company Secretaries in reputed companies in India and Abroad. Of late many students have become Financial Controller, CFO, Management Consultants and Accounts Officers in Government, Finance/Accounts Managers in MSMEs/SHG/FPO, Public and Private sector Institutions. Few students have their own businesses. Some of our students have become very good scholars suited to the academic line, have become renowned Professors. We are very glad to sate that some of the Professors in our Department were former students of the Department.

History of the Department

  • Department of Commerce of the ‘The Madura College’ is one of the pioneer institutions offering B.Com degree course in South India since 1947-48.
  • There were erudite professors working in our department and an astounding contribution to the department to this high level. The Department has been providing yeomen service to students’ community continuously in the field of Commerce Education. In 1978, the autonomous status was conferred on our college that provided a Golden Opportunity to the department to update the syllabus taking into considering the recent developments in the field of commerce to suit the local and Global environment.
  • We are the pioneer to start B.Com under Evening College Stream of the Madura College since 1983-84. The department introduced Master of Commerce during 1994-95. In 1998-99, the Department celebrated the Golden Jubilee Celebration in the name of ‘Instincts 1998’ for 3 days in grand manner.

  • Special emphasis is given to test the knowledge on practical aspect of the subjects through case studies and problem solving.
  • The department is regularly organizing field visits for the students to know the practical aspects of the commerce subjects.
  • Students are also deputed to undergo training in the Office of, MSMEs/Corporates/ Chartered Accountants/Cost Accountants/Company Secretary, in and around Madurai City.
  • All the faculty members are using the computer aided teaching/ e learning materials for their class preparation and for their papers in seminars /workshops. Access to Internet facility 24x7 by the all the members of department.
